Natalia Prisekina, Head of the Far East Office of Pepeliaev Group and a Partner in the firm, has been appointed an arbitrator of the Xiamen Arbitration Commission, People’s Republic of China.
The New York 1958 Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards came into force for China on 22 April 1987. According to the general rule, the member states of the Convention recognise foreign arbitral awards as binding and enforce them in line with their national procedural regulations. As of today, 164 states have joined the New York Convention, the Russian Federation among them.
The Xiamen Arbitration Commission (http://www.xmac.org.cn/Home/index/index.html ) is a non-commercial organisation of arbitrators. It is among the top 10 arbitration institutions in China (out of 255 arbitration institutions in China in total). The Commission has 741 arbitrators, 25 of whom are from other countries (USA, Denmark, Singapore and other states). It considers cases connected with business operations, including trading operations, financial leasing, construction, maritime transportation and other areas. Around 10% of its cases involve parties from other countries (Australia, USA, UK, Singapore, Korea and other states).
Natalia Prisekina has vast experience in cross-border commercial and corporate transactions, in maritime, transportation and employment law, as well as in civil and international litigation. She has a track record in legal professional practice of about 25 years. Natalia has personally participated in providing legal support for major transactions in the Far East of Russia. She is also the honorary consul of the Republic of Chile in Vladivostok. Her consular jurisdiction extends to the Primorye, Kamchatka and Khabarovsk Territories, as well as to the Sakhalin and Amur Regions.
