Precedent-based law in Russia
On 30 March 2010, within the scope of a round table organised by RIA Novosti, Sergey Pepeliaev, Pepeliaev Group Managing Partner, supported a proposal from Anton Ivanov, chairman of the Russian Supreme Arbitration Court, to create precedent-based law in Russia on the basis of judgments passed by courts. He was, however, concerned that some precedents might have retroactive force. Sergey Pepeliaev noted: “It would be right to apply a particular rule of law as it was interpreted at the relevant period.”
