What he specialises in

Peter is a qualified and experienced English solicitor with almost 20 years of experience in editing and rewriting legal documents, as well as translating them from Russian into English. He conducts seminars and training sessions for Russian lawyers, helping them to hone their legal drafting skills in English. He studied Russian and French to degree level, while he continues to advise on English law.

His main achievements

Among Peter's major projects, we would highlight the following:

  • edited translations and advice in English for FIFA over a seven-year period in relation to preparations for and the staging of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which included taking responsibility for the working English text of the extensive Federal Law dealing with all issues relating to the tournament;

  • handled, in the context of acting for major car makers in negotiations with the Russian government, the English texts of industrial assembly agreements to be signed with the Russian Ministry of Economic Development;

  • edited, drafted and redrafted legal documents (including contracts, legal advice, submissions to courts and arbitral tribunals, statutory instruments, documents of title, and internal corporate documents) for clients across the full range of Pepeliaev Group’s practice areas;

  • advised on a range of contractual matters under English law, including the acquisition by one of the firm’s clients of a chain of vehicle dealerships, and the novation of a suite of contracts further to a client of the firm assuming the role of operator under the production sharing agreement with respect to the Kharyaga oilfield.

Peter graduated from Cambridge University in Modern Languages and then studied law at Manchester Metropolitan University. He qualified as a solicitor in 1995, before practising at major international law firms in London, Brussels, Paris, and Moscow. He also worked for several years in the UK central government, where his duties included drafting statutory instruments and public consultation documents.

Since joining Pepeliaev Group in 2010, in addition to taking primary responsibility for the firm’s English-language output, Peter has provided support to the firm’s lawyers on English law matters.
