High turnout for tax journal Nalogoved's conference on ‘Cross-border transactions today and tomorrow’
The conference ‘Cross-border transactions today and tomorrow: mitigating tax risks effectively’ took place on 12 April in Moscow. The journal Nalogoved organised the event jointly with law firm Pepeliaev Group.

Event isues: the application of the rules on Controlled Foreign Companies; the implications of the offshore and foreign currency amnesty; the significance for Russian companies of the BEPS plan; the restriction of access to tax treaties; the international exchange of tax information; an analysis of aggressive tax schemes

There were 85 guests in attendance, including the heads of the tax and legal departments of leading Russian and international companies.

Those present discussed the current state of affairs in international taxation and the forthcoming changes in this area. During the discussion, some of the most topical current issues were touched on: the application of the rules on Controlled Foreign Companies; the implications of the offshore and foreign currency amnesty; the significance for Russian companies of the BEPS plan; the restriction of access to tax treaties; the international exchange of tax information; an analysis of aggressive tax schemes; and much more.

The attendees were deeply interested in a speech by the representative of Russia's Federal Tax Service, Alexandra Kadet. In it, she outlined in detail the possibilities and short-term prospects for the international exchange of information about taxpayers.

Delegates were also especially impressed by informative contributions from Withers LLP partner Olga Boltenko and Pepeliaev Group senior partners Rustem Ahmetshin and Andrey Nikonov, who shed light on some issues that are especially relevant for business today: foreign structures and assets; debt financing; and royalties - how they can be paid so that BEPS is out of the equation, among others.
