Partners from Pepeliaev Group have held a seminar for Chinese businesses in Guangzhou

A seminar was held for Chinese businesses on 2 November in Guangzhou. It was arranged during the most recent business mission of delegates from Pepeliaev Group to China. The event was held with the support of the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou and Russia's Trade Mission in China, as well as the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce and the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce.

The seminar was attended by leading Chinese companies, including: Country Garden Holdings, Amer Technology, China Railway Express, Guangdong Culture and Travel Development Co., Guangdong Jinguo Investment Co., YBN Investment Holding Co., Guangzhou Duojin Investment Consultation Co., Yuefei Finance Leasing Co., ETR Law Firm, Guangdong Fair Strategy Law Firm, Guangdong Jing Guo Law Firm, Guangdong Lawyers Association and more.

During his speech Rustem Ahmetshin, Senior Partner at Pepeliaev Group, discussed the tax incentives granted to foreign investors in Russia. These include tax advantages granted to investors in the Far East, preferences in Special Economic Zones and the Free Port of Vladivostok, and a range of other benefits.

While giving his presentation Ilya Bolotnov, Partner at Pepeliaev Group, briefed the participants on the current economic situation in Russia. He gave examples of recent successful investment projects implemented in Russia, including projects with Chinese partners. Moreover, Ilya provided a list of basic rules that investors are recommended to follow when doing business in Russia.

During her report Natalia Stenina, Partner at Pepeliaev Group, pointed out typical mistakes foreign investors make in Russia. Natalia urged the participants to play special attention to due diligence of their potential contracting parties, information about which is publicly available. 

The participants in the seminar showed great interest in the speakers’ reports and stressed their relevance and practical value. According to Chinese law firms, direct contacts with Russian law firms create a huge potential for mutual cooperation.
