Sergey Pepeliaev has become a member of the Council for Advancing Arbitration Proceedings
Sergey Pepeliaev, Managing Partner at Pepeliaev Group, has accepted an invitation to become a member of the Council for Advancing Arbitration Proceedings.
The Council for Advancing Arbitration Proceedings was created in accordance with the Federal Law “On arbitration (arbitration proceedings) in the Russian Federation” and carries out its activities in accordance with an Order of the Russian Ministry of Justice.
The main task of the Council is to assist in creating a favourable environment for the development of the institution of independent and professional arbitration (arbitration proceedings) in Russia. The key functions of the Council include the spreading of and support for Russian and international practices in the area of arbitration; and consideration of drafts of regulations relating to arbitration proceedings. Also, based on its recommendations, the government will issue permits to non-commercial organisations for creating arbitration courts.

The Council comprises of 50 members: professors from universities, corporate lawyers, members of public councils, including, Maxim Mikhailovich Beskhmelnitsin, the Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, Alexandra Nesterenko, the President of the Non-profit Partnership Corporate Counsel Association, Yury Pilipenko, the President of the Federal Chamber of Attorneys, Ruslan Ibragimov, the Vice President of MTS PJSC and others. The Chairman of the Council is Konstantin A. Chuichenko, the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation.
Sergey Pepeliaev has over 30 years' hands-on experience of dealing with corporate and personal taxation issues. He has resolved countless challenging situations involving judicial proceedings. He has participated in the development of draft laws, in particular of the Russian Tax Code, the law on the Olympic Games, on transfer pricing, etc. The Constitutional Court also invites him to express his expert opinion on a number of cases. Mr Pepeliaev is a member of the Board of the Federal Chamber of Attorneys and of the Board of the Moscow Region Chamber of Attorneys, as well as a member of the Board of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. He was awarded a medal “For the Protection of Rights and Freedoms of Citizens” by the Federal Chamber of Attorneys of the Russian Federation and the Fyodor Plevako silver medal.
