On 21 September 2012, Pepeliaev Group and the magazine “Nalogoved” organized the 7th Siberian Tax Forum in Krasnoyarsk.
The Siberian Tax Forum is a very well known event in business and professional circles in East Siberia. It brings together leading experts, lawyers, judges, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and tax authorities in Russia to discuss areas of specific interest and concern in tax law. The decisions then taken help to shape the country’s judicial practice; more often than not, they are the reason behind amendments made to Russian tax law.
This year, the forum was attended by over 120 people, who praised the high level of professionalism, and were impressed by the relevance of the tax issues discussed to the everyday business environment. Several top lawyers from Pepeliaev Group were present at the event, including the firm’s Managing Partner, Sergey Pepeliaev; Andrey Tereshchenko, Partner; Konstantin Sasov, Senior Associate and Ksenia Litvinova, Senior Associate; Vadim Zaripov, Head of the Analytical Department and Egor Lysenko, Pepeliaev Group’s Senior Associate and Project Coordinator for the East Siberian region.
At the Forum, Egor Lysenko gave a presentation titled, “Current decisions taken by the Supreme Arbitration Court”, during which he focused on precedents and court decisions in the Siberian region. Mr. Lysenko said that choosing Krasnoyarsk as the host city for the Forum was not a coincidence: "Here, tax issues are particularly acute because of the high concentration of businesses." As part of its regional development plan aimed at providing quality services to client companies based in Siberia, Pepeliaev Group has already made all the necessary arrangements to open a representative office in Krasnoyarsk.
“Siberia is fast becoming the centre of Russian investment. This is because, in addition to having a well developed infrastructure, highly qualified personnel and investment incentives, the region offers vast opportunities for greenfield investment in key sectors of the economy, including consumer goods, trade, oil and gas, mining, metals, automotive, construction, transportation, electric power, etc," says Sergey Pepeliaev, Managing Partner, Pepeliaev Group.
On the eve of the Forum, Pepeliaev Group organised a business seminar, titled "Legal risks and opportunities for business". The event was moderated by Egor Lysenko, Pepeliaev Group’s Senior Associate and Project Coordinator for the East Siberian region and Vadim Zaripov, Head of Analytical department. Also present were Ilya Bolotnov, a Partner in Pepeliaev Group; Alexey Konevsky, Partner and Head of the firm’s Real Estate and Construction Practice and Yuri Vorobyev, Head of the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Mediation Practice. Issues discussed included the legal risks of complying with antitrust laws, investment, construction and real estate; they also spoke about contract dispute resolution and other recent developments in arbitration practice in Siberia.
