The respected publication, The Lawyer, has included Pepeliaev Group in the list of finalists competing for the title of Russia’s best law firm in 2012. The winner will be announced in October of this year.
The Lawyer is one of the most respected legal publications in the world. Therefore, the finalists only include firms whose reputation is acknowledged by the global legal community and whose professionalism merits the highest praise. The list of finalists may include both individual lawyers and legal departments or law firms as a whole. The nominees are selected by an independent jury, which consists of lawyers representing well-known firms, as well as lawyers and heads of law firms. The experts take into account not only the feedback on a nominee they receive from market players, but also successful projects completed by the firm.

In 2012, The Lawyer in conjunction with journal Legal Insight performed a survey of the Russian market for legal services. The majority of respondents in this survey, who represented major Russian companies, named Pepeliaev Group the undisputed leader in the legal business. Apart from Pepeliaev Group, only one other Russian law firm was included in the list of top 10 law firms – the rest are Russian subsidiaries of international law firms.
The majority of respondents noted that they have an equal preference for working with Russian and international law firms, and when they select an advisor, they are guided by the information on whether a particular firm is an intellectual leader on the market, as well as by testimonials that they are reliable and provide high levels of customer service. However, almost 25% of respondents opt for exclusively Russian law firms, putting trust in their thorough knowledge of Russian law and understanding of regional specifics.
The experts of the journal are sure that “the future of the legal service market in Russia lies in marrying experience and technologies accumulated by Western colleagues with the expertise of Russian lawyers”.
