11.06.2025

Valentina Orlova, Partner and Head of IP and Trademarks Practice at Pepeliaev Group, took part in the presentation of the book ‘The role of IP in overcoming the spread of coronavirus infection around the globe’ authored under the supervision of Grigory Ivliev, President of the Eurasian Patent Office. The event took place on 5 June during the XI ‘Red Square’ Book Festival.

The book is about the world’s patent authorities assisting developers in creating means of combating the pandemic of COVID-19 coronavirus infection.

Valentina Orlova, on her part, spoke about how the team of Pepeliaev Group’s IP practice provided support with the registration of trademarks SPUTNIK V, SPUTNIK Vaccine and SPUTNIK Light. She described the challenges the team had to overcome in the process. Protection was sought under the Madrid System and under national systems, given that some of the countries where the protection had to be obtained were not participants of the Madrid System. All in all, under the Madrid System procedure, protection was sought in 55 countries including EU member states. Under national registration procedures protection was sought in China, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, El Salvador and Kuwait.

This project has become an important landmark in the work of the IP team at Pepeliaev Group. It has also been a major contribution to combating the spread of the COVID pandemic.
