Pepeliaev Group is a partner of the Russia Legal Forum 2013

Pepeliaev Group has been announced as a partner of the IX Russia Legal Forum, which is held annually by newspaper Vedomosti. The forum will take place in Moscow and London from 3 to 5 April 2013.

The Russia Legal Forum is recognised in the legal community as an arena for discussing difficult issues of the law with a view to developing and improving the Russian legal system. This year at the Forum a special focus will be placed on the issue of pieces of legislation promoting a favourable business environment. Notably, there will be a discussion of the actions that businesspeople await from public authorities to create the right conditions for doing business.

Sergey Pepeliaev, managing partner of Pepeliaev Group, will take part in the Forum’s key sessions, which will be devoted to: how a market’s attractiveness for investment depends on the degree to which that country’s law and legislation is developed; how Russian law can be made more attractive and competitive; and how the administration of justice in Russian courts can be improved.

“Our task is to ensure that it is comfortable for business people to enter into transactions under Russian law, primarily in the corporate sector,” states Sergey Pepeliaev. “The reform of civil law has precisely this aim and it should focus on improving Russian legislation.”

Oxana Migitko, head of Pepeliaev Group’s commercial practice, will speak in a discussion of competition and antimonopoly regulation matters. The session will also feature representatives of state authorities, who will discuss the main directions of the Russian federal government’s Roadmap on "Developing competition and improving antimonopoly practices".

For the first time, the Legal Forum will feature a special session in London, which will be devoted to the investment climate in Russia. There will be a discussion of the anticipated consequences of Russia’s accession to the WTO for cross-border trade and customs regulation. One of the speakers will be Alexander Kosov, head of customs law and foreign trade regulation at Pepeliaev Group.

The current crisis in Cyprus will be the topic for a special session of the Forum. Participants will examine the legal implications of the situation, assess the risks and will analyse the key aspects for Russian companies to come through the difficulties. Pepeliaev Group partner Andrey Tereschenko will be involved in this session. He will cover new difficulties in the area of tax that Russian companies may face when they transfer their business and funds to other jurisdictions.
