02.04.2013
‘The Legal 500: Europe, Middle East & Africa 2013’, the international directory of law firms, recommends Pepeliaev Group as a legal adviser to firms doing business in Russia.

It was our tax practice that received the highest recommendation from clients and industry experts, taking first place in The Legal 500’s rankings for 2013. Pepeliaev Group “is the best tax adviser on the Russian market” and its lawyers are “equally good for contentious and non-contentious advice”. The experts have also commended Pepeliaev Group’s teams in practice areas such as: corporate, mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance, dispute resolution, employment law, real estate, energy and natural resources, intellectual property and telecommunications.

The Legal 500 is an independent publication that offers its recommendations based solely on companies’ achievements, feedback from clients and market players, and information about projects completed successfully. In 2013, more than 260,000 advisers and lawyers globally were surveyed when the recommendations were prepared.

In 2013, The Legal 500 recommended the following heads of Pepeliaev Group’s practice areas and groups: Sergey Pepeliaev, managing partner (tax practice); Rustem Akhmetshin, senior partner tax practice); Andrey Nikonov, senior partner tax practice); Sergey Sosnovsky, head of tax practice in St Petersburg; Sergey Spasennov, partner and head of St Petersburg office (corporate law and M&A); Vladimir Sokov, senior partner (corporate law and M&A); Natalia Ivashchenko, head of telecommunications group; Yuri Vorobyev, Yulia Litovtseva and Varvara Knutova from the dispute resolution and meditation practice; Julia Borozdna, head of the employment and migration law practice; Alexey Konevsky, partner (real estate and construction); and Valentina Orlova, head of the intellectual property practice.

The clients involved in The Legal 500 survey singled out Pepeliaev Group’s lawyers because they “clearly understand the needs of the client” and provide services based on “a deep analysis of practice and the latest developments of the law”. The following projects, among others, were noted: enforcing a decision of a Russian state commercial court in Israel; being instructed by FIFA to perfect legislation in relation to the 2018 football World Cup being staged in Russia; projects in the area of transfer pricing; and legal support for cross-border transactions and business restructurings.

“Business in 2012 has revived, which has allowed us to handle a range of interesting projects and expand the practice areas we already have,” states Sergey Pepeliaev, managing partner of Pepeliaev Group. “We have bolstered our strength in intellectual property, banking and finance, real estate and construction, and dispute resolution and mediation.” Mr Pepeliaev is sure that, through the strengthening of these practice areas, a tangible effect will be felt when the firm handles new client projects.
