Valentina specialises in IP issues and provides clients with assistance in relation to copyright, software programs, databases, patent law, selective breeding achievements, and means of identification (such as trademarks, trade names, and commercial designations).
When giving advice, she focuses in particular on devising strategies for the legal protection and security of the intellectual property of client companies, ensuring that know-how is secure and protected, introducing commercial confidentiality regimes, and distributing and securing the rights to intellectual property and means of identification under various contracts.
Moreover, Ms Orlova advises clients on the contents and entry into of agreements regarding the use of IP, agreements for the disposal of exclusive rights, as well as in e-commerce, advertising legislation and protection of consumers’ rights.
Valentina has extensive experience of successfully representing Russian and foreign companies in the Chamber for Patent Disputes of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (“Rospatent”) when objections and applications are being considered, at the pre-trial stage of dispute resolution, and of acting as a legal expert in cases regarding the protection of IP assets.
Formerly head of the legal department at Rospatent, she has unparalleled insight into the workings of the patent office, the substance of the regulations issued by the patent office and the methodology it uses.
