Pepeliaev Group has been chosen as one of the Russian legal advisers to British retailer Kingfisher plc. In Russia the company operates through Castorama DIY and home improvement stores. In Restructuring/Insolvency: Litigation Pepeliaev Group has risen to Band 3 skipping one band as compared with the last year’s results. Pepeliaev Group’s lawyers represented a client in the Russian Intellectual Property Court (the “IP Court”): the legal protection of a similar trademark owned by a bad-faith rightholder was declared invalid.
The firm’s lawyers successfully represented Kavminvody JSC (“Kavminvody”), a renowned producer of the Novoterskaya Tselebnaya mineral water, in the IP Court. The outcome was that the legal protection of a similar trademark owned by a bad-faith rightholder was declared invalid.

Valentina Orlova has been included in the working group which is preparing a draft law amending the Russian Civil Code
Valentina Orlova, Head of the Intellectual Property and Trademarks Practice at Pepeliaev Group, participated in the first meeting of the working group that is preparing a draft law amending the Russian Civil Code. The changes will improve the legal regulation of the appellations of origin of goods and supplement the list of the protected IP items with a new item called a ‘geographical indication’.
